DEATH AND FUNERAL RITES IN UGANDA

Many Afro-centric scholars in their writtings have criticised Islam and Christianity for belittling, changing, undermining, misinterpretation and destruction of African traditional norms,values, rituals, and practices. These negative criticisms have made the two foreign religions to be seen as enemies of culture. However many Africans have adopted these two foreign religions while at the same time they are still rooted in their cultures. This book discusses and analyses in depth Buganda in particular and African rituals in general on death and funeral.The book further discusses the death rituals of Islam,a religion which many scholars and non Muslims have little knowledge about. The book is the first of its kind to present a wel-researched and analysed religious rituals of three religions i.e Islam,Christianity and African traditional religion under which Buganda rituals follow.
