Decentralisation: A Case Study of Nigeria
Details
This book examines the gradual political centralization in Nigeria during the colonial period till today. Since the creation of Nigeria in 1914, there has not been any effective administrative structure in the governing of the nation. Pre- independence Nigeria(1888 - 1960) is characterized by a defective structure put in place by the British colonial administration and the several modification that followed independence have not changed the underlying problems established during the colonial period. The traditional approaches to political decentralization in developing countries generally involve delegation, devolution, and deconcentration. This book concludes by proposing a model for decentralizing the complex administrative structure of Nigeria through institutional reconciliation.
