Decentralisation and Dilemmas in School Leadership
Details
Decentralisation of education systems has become
most widely spread policy in recent decades. It
introduced new concepts in the field of education
managerial, business-like approaches which place
additional demands on educators, especially
educational leaders. Now they need to deal with not
only day-to-day teaching and learning issues, but
perform rigorous tasks to manage education
business . Despite the popularity of
decentralisation policy, there is lack of research
concerning its effects over school efficiency and
school improvement. This is most true of Georgia, a
former Soviet Republic, which adopted
decentralisation policy to rehabilitate the system
of education. Thus, educational professionals should
find this book interesting and useful as it provides
general overview of modern reform initiatives and
concentrates on the Georgian context discussing
dilemmas of school leadership.
