Deep Ecology In Enhancing Sustainable Development
Details
Human beings have failed to appreciate that human being are part of nature and not apart from nature and that all creature have inherent value. This point is essentially a reflection of un-anthropocentrism. It is an assertion that human and non-human life should flourish. Failure to appreciate this has led to shrinking of life support system hence threatening the survival of both human and non-human beings. In order to correct the trend, the book calls for humanity to embracing deep ecological agriculture, which provides fiber and food necessary to fulfill the basic survival and social needs for human and non-human beings for now and future; it meets its requirement in socially, economically and environmentally accepted conditions. This conforms to three principles; ecological efficiency, use of complementary technology and embodiment in an appropriate cultural setting. Deep ecology, if embraced by humanity, has a wealth of experience and techniques for enabling them to access their own resources and built a relationship that is meaningful for them, and empowers them to live in a sustainable way for a better future.
