The study assessed the impact of demography on livelihoods and biodiversity in the Virunga Landscape where land use remains dominated by nature conservation which covers 52% of protected areas and conservation areas against agriculture covering 45% outside protected areas. The study was conducted in the province of North Kivu, in the large riverside agglomerations of the central sector of the Virunga National Park. These are the new towns of Rutshuru and Luholu, the communes of Nyamilima, Kanyabayonga and Kaseghe and the agglomerations of Kinyandoyi, Kiseguro, Buramba, Ishasha, Bulotwa and Kikuvo in the chiefdoms of Bwisha in Rutshuru territory and Batangi in Lubero territory. , during the year 2019. A series of socio-demographic factors of households bordering the PNVi, the extension of agglomerations and agricultural operations and deforestation, were analyzed to identify the main factors of impact of demography on the means of existence of local communities and the protection of PNVi resources.
