Dependency and Underdevelopment Theory:A Discourse on Nigeria seeks to elucidate how integration of Nigeria economy into world capitalist society characterized by exploitation structured Nigeria's dependency and underdevelopment. Dr. Asadu argues that the substructure(economic base)of Nigeria was distorted through the instrument of capitalism, imperialism and colonialism. The exploitative nature of division of labor in the international capitalist society in which Nigeria economy was incorporated enforced Nigeria into producer of cheap raw material and primary products for industrialized western capitalist states and importer of overvalued manufactured products from industrialized states. This grave connection characterized by asymmetrical and manipulative relationship considerably drives the state of Nigeria underdevelopment and will continue to arrest development in the country if the political class and leaders of the country do not evolve new development paradigm and approaches.
