Der älteste Astronomietraktat in französischer Sprache: "L'Introductoire d'astronomie"

The "Introductoire d'astronomie", dating from approximately 1270, is the oldest treatise on astronomy in French. The present volume is the first-ever critical edition of the book. As such it represents a source of previously unpublished study material of major interest for historiographers of the natural sciences. The central concern is the lexical analysis of the text, providing historical French lexicography with new, carefully established material. In addition, critical perusal of the dictionaries has demonstrated the need for hundreds of corrections, ranging from simple dating errors to problems of definition.
