Design and Analysis of All-Terrain Vehicles
Details
The work presented in the book is concerned with design, analysis and fabrication of an All Terrain Vehicle. The Rollcage has been chosen as Tubular Space Frame, while the design of suspension has been done on the hard points being provided by the chassis. The engine is a Briggs & Stratton Model 20 with Mahindra Champion Alfa Manual 4 speed gearbox with an inbuilt clutch and a differential. The drive-train further has modified Maruti 800 axles directly powering the Carlisle AT 489 wheels on the rear axle. The suspension in a preliminary stage was a McPherson Strut and was designed in Lotus suspension analyzer v5.01c by putting in the geometrical hard points of the vehicle and obtaining the results. The final design of suspension consists of fusion of both McPherson and a Double Wishbone. Furthermore, the braking has been adapted from the Yamaha R15 rear discs. The Driver compartment has been designed by referring to standard ergonomic values. The dimensional rules and mountings on the vehicle related to the driver safety have been referred from the SAE BAJA INDIA 2012 rulebook.
