Design and Construction of Jatropha Seed Oil Extracting Machine

The text highlighted some of the moisture dependent physical, mechanical and chemical peoperties of Jatropha curcas seed. Considering the importance of production of environmentally friendly fuel and the role Jatropha curcas is playing in achieving this, a machine to extract oil from the seed was conceived. Some of the properties relevant to the design were considered as a function of moisture content. Five moisture level were considered from 5.85% - 25.85% d.b. These properties are size, 1000 seed mass, bulk and kernel density, porosity, angle of repose, coefficient of friction, acid value, peroxide value, specific gravity, saponification value, rupture force, deformation, deformation ratio. Some of these parameters required for the design are taken into consideration in the design of the jatropha seed oil extracting machine. After a careful and through design a machine which extract oil from jatropha curcas seed was produced having a capacity of 10 kg/hr.
