Design and evaluation of prolonged release gliclazide matrix tablets

In the present study an attempt has been made to evaluate the effect of hydrophilic polymers on the release profile of drug from matrix system. Matrix tablets of Gliclazide were prepared by both direct compression and wet granulation process using METHOCEL K15M CR, METHOCEL K4M CR, METHOCEL E4M CR and HYPROMELLOSE 15cps.Release kinetics of Gliclazide from these extended release matrices at Phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) using USP paddle method was conducted for 10 hours and examined. Statistically significant differences were found among the drug release profile from different classes of polymeric matrices, polymer concentration and granulation process.
