Design and Structural Analysis of Multi-Speeds Helical Gear Box

Gearing is one of the most critical components in a mechanical power transmission system & in most industrial rotating machinery. Possibly gears will predominate as the most effective means of transmitting power in future machines due to their high degree of reliability and compactness. In addition, the rapid shift in the industries from heavy industries such as shipbuilding to industries like automobile, manufacturing and automation will necessitate a refined application of gear technology. Gear designs are evolving at an ever accelerating rate and gear manufacturers need to better understand how correct design of gear with materials choice, heat treating methods etc. can optimize induced stresses in gears, balance overall cost and extend service life. Gearing system design is a difficult, multifaceted process and when it includes helical gearing, process becomes complicated by complex nature of helical gears themselves.The book presents designing, modelling and structural analysis of multi-speeds helical gear box. In addition, general overview on gears, their classifications, gear materials & heat treatments, gear failures & their prevention has also been incorporated.
