Designing the reclaimed landscape for sustainable recreation in Kenya
Details
Climate change is a growing menace in many of the developing nations. This is mainly as a result of industrialization which has immensely contributed to the appearance of derelict landscapes such as quarries that are abandoned thereafter. In this perspective recycling and reclamation of such landscapes is mandatory for cities to transform to green public spaces that enhance quality of life and land use. Ecological design calls for the implementation of sustainable development which factors in three key issues: culture, economy and the environment. This book presents an approach based on knowledge, technology and innovation and collaborative design. Design strategies will be applied to minimize the environmental impact, respecting the cultural heritage, improve social conditions and contribute to economic growth. The authors seeks to apply innovative approaches guided by the Sustainable Development Goals, develop design strategies for recycling abandoned industrial sites.
