Desire City, Seoul
Details
This book is a creative exploration of architecture and urban space through digital design. We collected 100 peoples' data using a web-based interview interface and generated multi-layered digital images from two-dimensional mapping to three dimensional visualization using state-of-the-art parametric design tools. All of the processes from data collection to final publication were done with a single consistent theme of Desire City, Seoul. The book consists of four main chapters which are tightly related to each other. The first chapter presents this research project's theoretical framework based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The second chapter addresses the transition from one person's desire to 100 people's desires by demonstrating web-based data collection and visualization. The third chapter develops two-dimensional desire maps into three-dimensional desire terrains through parametric design tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper 3D. The final chapter performs the detailed regional research of desire peaks and desire plains that were identified through three-dimensional visualization.
