DETECTION OF HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS IN BOWEN'S DISEASE

Bowen's disease (BD) is a squamous cell carcinoma in situ whose association with human papilloma virus (HPV) infection has recently been demonstrated. In Tunisia, the association between MB and HPV infection has not been studied. The aim of our work was to study the epidemiological, anatomopathological and molecular features in extra-genital and genital MB. This was a retrospective descriptive study conducted between 2001-2020. Chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) analysis using HPV 6 /11, 16/18 and 31/33 probes was performed for all cases diagnosed with MB. Thirty-three skin biopsies were selected for our study. The site of the biopsies was the head and neck region (34%), lower limbs 21%, trunk and abdomen (18%), anogenital region in 15% of the biopsies and upper limbs (12%). The study of all cases by the CISH technique did not reveal specific nuclear labelling in any case. The role of HPV infection as an etiologic factor in MB remains controversial.
