Environmental impacts resulting from anthropogenic actions end up contaminating ecosystems with heavy metals, overloading the environment with these elements and making them available in the environment. The risks of contamination are generally only associated with untreated water or the local biota, however, depending on the level of contamination in reservoirs, human populations can be affected by consuming water from such reservoirs, even after it has been treated.
