Details

The troposphere is of special interest since it is the atmospheric layer where most meteorological events occur. For this purpose, various types of surface observation sites, vertical sounding systems, and remote sensing tools are employed to understand the nature of these phenomena. However, most of the existing networks remain inadequate to detect significant weather features due to unsatisfactory temporal and/or spatial resolution. This book, therefore, introduces the proper site spacing determination procedures based on correlation level, power spectrum, and true field error variance. Temperature, dew point temperature, wind speed and pressure parameters over Texas are used for the analysis. The isotropic conditions are tested and sub-clusters are determined by k-means cluster analysis. For each cluster, the governing scales for each parameter s variation are determined by spectral analysis. Error amounts in obtaining the true Fourier coefficients are analyzed. The analysis should be helpful for those who are in search of the adequateness of the existing observation network or extension of it.
