Development Experiences of China from the Qing Empire to Our Days

In the present study, the Hungarian economist György Simon, Jr., setting out from the conception of modernising development, investigates the main political and economic aspects of of China's gradual transformation into a modern Great Power from the mid-17th to the early 21st century. For an econometric analysis, covering the period 1955-2019, a general growth model is used that considers not only physical and human capital but also time as the event space of creative economic activity. In this context, the author considers the political and economic achievements of Taiwan separately as representing an alternative model of Chinese development.The monograph is intended for a wide range of readers interested in the problems of political and economic development in countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

György Simon, Jr. is a Hungarian economist and specialist in international relations. He received a Ph.D. degree in economics in 1994. His experience includes work at Hungary's Foreign Ministry and Central Statistical Office.
