Development of a Refrigerated and Controlled Atmosphere Onion Storage

The research work was aimed at determining the dielectric properties of onions which was used to determine the sizes of refrigeration equipment to be used in other to achieve a determined storage temperature as obtained from literature, the components are coupled to a controlled atmosphere storage system whose storage area was developed using an old refrigerator which was adapted specifically for onion storage in a developing country like Nigeria.

Engr Usman Abubakar Garba was born in Gusau, Zamfara state of Nigeria. He is a graduate of Agricultural Engineering and holds a master of Engineering degree in energy engineering, from Bayero University Kano in Nigeria. He is presently a principal lecturer with Aric & Bio Environmental Engineering department, Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna Nigeria.
