Today, more than ever, the amount of information that is available is almost not quantifiable. Information retrieval (IR) systems - search engines assist users in locating information. The need to evaluate IR system is paramount; and has over time been predominantly done using the system-centric approach, whereas both the system and user-centric approach are indicated in literature. This piece provides insight regarding the use of the user-centric approach to evaluating IR systems. Therefore, it contributes to the need to awaken and strengthen the use of the user-centric paradigm in IR systems' evaluation.
