Development of casting pattern by using rapid prototyping

The competition in the world market for manufactured products has intensified tremendously in recent years. It has become important to produce the product fast to reach the market as early as possible, by using the available new technology.In order to improve the quality in foundries the CAD/CAM and other advanced manufacturing techniques have been used as a tool to achieve quality and productivity. In this concern, the use of Rapid Prototyping (RP) is not yet fully practiced in foundries. This project work provides an initial study on the fabrication of a master pattern (step bar) of casting using rapid prototyping technique as well as presenting its scope and benefits compared to the current practices.

Mahendra S B, received the B.E degree in Mechanical engineering from AMC engineering collage Bangalore and received the M.tech in product design and manufacturing from VTU, Belagavi. He had 4 tears of teaching experience, presently working as assistant professor in department of mechanical engineering in SIT, Mangaluru.
