Development of Hierarchical Porous Zeolites by Desilication
Details
The introduction of synthetic zeolites in the early
1950 s has led to a paradigm shift in catalysis,
separations, and adsorption processes. This is due
to unique intrinsic properties such as
crystallinity, high-surface area, acidity, and shape-
selective character. However, the sole presence of
micropores in these materials typically induces
diffusion limitations, rendering low utilization of
the zeolite volume. This book examines recent
advances in the rapidly evolving area of zeolites
with improved accessibility and molecular transport.
Particular emphasis is given to mesoporous zeolites
prepared by by the novel methodology of
desilication, i.e. controlled framework silicon
extraction. These materials couple the catalytic
power of micropores and the facilitated access of a
surrounding mesopore network. Despite its emphasis
on zeolites, this book stimulates intuition into
design of related nanoporous materials. The work
described in this book is considered useful to those
active in the field of porous materials development,
characterization and application.
