Voltage Source Inverters(VSI) are widely used in Variable frequency drives, power conditioning equipment, Flexible AC transmission systems(FACTS), custom power devices and uninterruptible power supplies(UPS). The conventional two-level inverter synthesize voltage waveforms with high harmonics current, high dv/dt stress on connected equipment. To improve output wave form quality, the switching frequency has to be raised which causes additional switching losses. For high voltage induction motors, there are several approaches for realizing high voltage and high power inverters. Multi level voltage source pwm inverters are recently showing growing popularity because of easy sharing of large voltage between the series devices and lower THD in output voltage compared to two-level inverter.
