Diabetes screening campaign combined with high blood pressure

Early detection of diabetes is a key factor in preventing complications and improving management. The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence of diabetes, arterial hypertension (AH) and the main factors associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Brazzaville.A cross-sectional study was carried out from November 15 to 17, 2024 among 543 volunteers aged 16 and over,recruited at three sites in the city. Data were collected via Kobo Collect and analyzed using R software.The mean age of participants was 44.15 ±15.08 years, with a sex ratio of 3.14 in favor of men.The known prevalences of diabetes and hypertension were 10.1% and 16.4% respectively. Screening identified 25 new cases of diabetes (4.6%) and 132 cases of hypertension (29.1%), the main factors being alcoholism (75.0%), physical inactivity (68.9%), overweight (48.6%), obesity (12.5%) and smoking (12.9%).These results confirm the high burden of NCDs in the Brazzaville population, and underline the need to step up preventive actions, through a national STEPs survey to guide public health policies.
