Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common chronic complications of diabetes which affects around 50% of all diabetic patients and a leading contributing factor for foot ulceration and non-traumatic foot amputation. This book provides up-to-date and evidence-based report on the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of diabetic neuropathy. The book also highlights the current methods used for the diagnosis, early detection and follow up of the progression of the disease including the recently advocated skin biopsy and the non-invasive corneal confocal microscopy for detection of small nerve fibre damage. Ahmed T. Alahmar is a lecturer in the Department of Medical Physiology, College of Medicine, University of Babylon, Iraq. He obtained MBChB (Hons.) and Masters in Medical Physiology MSc (Hons.) from the University of Babylon, Iraq. He was also enrolled in postgraduate research at the School of Medicine, University of Manchester, UK.
