Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Orthognathic Surgery

It is well known fact that the shape of the face makes a significant impression on the beauty and attractiveness of an individual. Face is the true representation of a person's personality. Orthognathic surgery which is now the fastest developing tool with oral and maxillofacial surgeons is remarkably improving the presentation of face. It not only deals with the facial asymmetries disharmonies and mal proportions but also with congenital defects such as cleft lip and palate and airway issues including sleep apnea. Successful outcomes in orthognathic surgery come from collaboration of surgeons and orthodontics across all stages of treatment. Orthognathic surgery requires an extensive pre-operative phase from patient evaluation to treatment planning.In this book the author describes the general surgical principles of orthognathic surgery, highlighting the sequence of treatment, pre-operative analysis of dentofacial deformity, surgical execution of treatment plan and possible complications.
