Difficulties in implementing official programs in medersas
Details
In Burkina Faso, medersas are private denominational institutions where French and Arabic are taught. The official language of the country being French, the graduates of the medersas find it difficult to enter the workforce. The reason is the non-application of the official teaching programs although the specifications before opening these structures impose a commitment to adopt the official programs. The question is why medersas do not apply the official curricula. This research is qualitative. It was based on interviews with the managers and promoters of these facilities. According to the parents, the interest that justifies the enrolment of their children in these structures transcends worldly issues. It is a matter of religious belief. Moreover, most of these structures are the result of partnerships with the Gulf countries. Even if a tacit contract does not exist between the promoters and the donors, it imposes a particular emphasis on the teaching of Arabic and the promotion of Islam.
