Digital Ecosystems is an emerging research field, and so with healthy variations in its definition. Also, the most cited definition of Digital Ecosystems is a variation of the above, which focuses on the technical system being the digital counterpart of natural ecosystems. This term was used in different sectors such as in the computer industry (Carly Fiorina, then chief executive officer at Hewlett-Packard, even using the term in one of her speeches), in the entertainment industry and was most notably used by the World Economic Forum.
