Diseases of the tongue

The tongue is a very important organ in the oral cavity which performs multiple vital functions. It is important to understand the embryology, anatomy and physiology of the tongue in order to know various pathologic conditions affecting the tongue. This book entails the basic details of the tongue and gives us the plethora of the developmental, neurologic and acquired localized and generalized conditions of the tongue including cysts, benign and malignant tumors. It also tells about the lingual changes in systemic diseases. A special emphasis is also given on examination of the tongue, understanding special function of taste sensation and tongue mapping. Along with the text, this book also provides good quality clinical photographs which will help the readers understand the pathologies and formulate differential diagnoses.

I successfully finished my postgraduation in Oral Medicine, Diagnosis and Radiology in 2010 from Dr. D.Y.Patil Dental College, Pune. I was the first ranker amongst all the branches and was honoured with a gold medal in the faculty of dentistry by the President- Her excellency, Smt. Pratibha Patil. I am currently also pursuing PhD.
