Disordered Eating Behavior in Pregnancy
Details
Pregnancy, a beautiful yet a challenging period in a woman's life, as it brings along various problems such as hormonal imbalances, mood swings, and changes and disturbances in one's eating habits. This book highlights the presence of disordered eating behavior in Pakistani pregnant women and what factors contribute to its development whether it is the pregnancy itself or are there any other factors responsible. In Pakistan, 30,000 women die each year due to pregnancy related causes. It is estimated that about 500 maternal deaths occur per 100,000 live births each year in Pakistan. One of the major reasons of this high maternal mortality rate is malnutrition and imbalances in eating habits. In addition, 45 percent of Pakistani women suffer from iron deficiencies that result in still birth, birth defects, mental retardation and infant deaths. In such a situation, identification of disordered eating behavior and its causing factors in pregnant women become necessary so that its fatal outcomes can be prevented.
