Domestic Violence Against Women
Details
Developing A Christian Response To Domestic Violence Against Women In Kumasi, Ghana evolved out of the author's genuine concern and empathy towards the plight of vulnerable and battered Christian wives, who silently continue to remain in abusive relationships with their 'pseudo' Christian husbands. Domestic violence against women, specifically spousal violence remains a significant problem in many Christian homes in Kumasi, Ghana. In formulating biblical, theological and human experience, the writer presents an anecdote of a young medical doctor- an only daughter of her parents who met her untimely death as a result of domestic violence meted out to her by her husband who was a Church Elder. Some traditional, socio-cultural beliefs and practices of the Ghanaian culture which tend to accentuate this 'crime' even within the Church were identified. Also, some biblical and theological misinterpretations were analyzed. In conclusion, some practical implications to the Church, society and the nation are explored in breaking the silence, facilitating awareness consequently, liberating women from discrimination, marginalization and domination which underpin domestic violence against women.
