Dreams Of The Future, Nightmares Of The Past, investigates the conflicts that exist in Canadian Aboriginal Policing services. The research conducted examines various theories that apply in determining the root cause of conflict between police officers and the Aboriginal people they serve, often times resulting in violence. Serge E. Vidalis presents his research as both a former police officer and researcher, who was interested in documenting the interaction between two differing cultures: Aboriginal culture and the Police sub-culture. The findings of his research lend to many other conflicts that are deeply rooted in cultural difference, with a perspective that allows practitioners, academics and individuals to better understand and resolve conflict.

Serge E. Vidalis is a retired Canadian Naval Special Operations Officer. His career also included 5 years as a Police Officer in British Columbia, Canada. Serge holds a Masters Degree in Conflict Analysis and Management specializing in Political, Ethnic and Security issues. He is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of British Columbia.
