DRILLING

Before drilling, a preliminary study is essential to locate the deposit to be exploited in terms of surface coordinates and depth and to characterize the specific properties of the reservoir (lithology, age, thickness, geometry.....) and of the fluid sought (nature, salinity, temperature, density, etc.).Then, a drilling program is established which is used to describe the different stages of drilling to exploit the deposit in the safest possible way and the least expensive of course. The execution of a drilling is a very technical step which differs according to the envisaged depth, the geology of the site and the sought fluid. For this reason, various drilling techniques are detailed in this book while explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each. This work covers the different stages of drilling: exploration and reconnaissance of the site, drilling, addition of pipe, maneuvering, casing and cementing while describing the different equipment needed for each stage and their characteristics. In addition, a chapter has been devoted to the study of drilling fluids (role, properties, different types of drilling muds and their constituents).
