Dual Phase Steel Development

Plain carbon steels, consisting of about four-fifths of the total tonnage of steel production, are economical compared to alloy steels. These are widely used as structural components in various engineering applications. In recent years, the search and application of new advanced materials have been much in demand by the automotive industry. Approximately 85% of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) should be used for different construction parts of a vehicle, which could lead to a weight reduction of up to 25% compared with a common model. The distinctly attractive feature of the Advanced High Strength Steel is the excellent combination of high strength properties and good formability. Dual phase (DP) steel is one of the most important types of Advanced High Strength steel. Dual-phase steel is a member of the family of high-strength low-alloy steels, offering a very good combination of strength and ductility.
