Details

This book provides a comprehensive study of asymmetric territorial conflict combining game theory, statistical empirical analysis and historiographic analysis. Using the Israeli-Palestine conflict as a case study, it tests the model on a database of almost four hundred territorial conflicts.

"This insightful book advances an original theoretical model addressing crucial questions which puzzled the IR literature on territorial conflicts for a very long time. For that purpose, Resnick uses in an impressive way a combination of formal, quantitative and qualitative methods. Based on his research the author provides some useful policy recommendations regarding the conditions under which resolve or concessions are more useful policies. This book must be read very closely by all scholars, students and policy makers who are interested in the crucial issue of territorial conflicts." - Benjamin Miller, Haifa University, Israel

"[...] Using original concepts, such as 'patience,' this book demonstrates the utility of formal analysis for understanding conflict interaction and deriving policy recommendations [...] It constitutes a major contribution to conflict theory and provides important ideas for statecraft." - Yehezkel Dror, Hebrew University of Jerusalem and author of Israeli Statecraft: National Security Challenges and Responses

'' [In] Resnick's book, which is very impressive from a technical standpoint, familiar literature is integrated with state-of-the-art theories in international relations and conflict studies.'' - Melanie Carina Schmoll, Lecturer in Political Science, University of Hamburg, Germany, writing in Israel Journal of Foreign Affairs
