Dynamics of Chronic Poverty and Food Security: A Sociological Study of Forest-Based and Mining Areas of Odisha,by Dr.Gadadhara Mohapatra provides an understanding of the socio-political roots of poverty and hunger from a sociological perspective. This book highlights the overall poverty scenario in Odisha since 1970s and assess the role of the state in ensuring basic social security.Further, an effort has been made to review the India s 'rights based approach in tackling the severe problem of poverty and food scarcity in the poorest regions of the country with specific reference to Odisha.This micro level study explores the coping mechanisms developed by the tribal villagers to overcome food crisis and hunger. Poverty is not static, it is dynamic, as it grows or declines in the households, communities, villages, region and countries over a given period of time. This book captures the drivers, maintainers, and interrupters of poverty process through empirical study in the state by focusing on the comparative situation of poverty affected communities and villages.

Dr.Gadadhara Mohapatra is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Tripura Central University,Tripura.He has a doctoral degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and post doctoral degree from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany.He has served as a Research Officer at Indian Institute of Public Administration,New Delhi.
