E-Governance in District Administration

District is the basic geographical (i.e. territorial) unit of Administration in India. District Administration is the total functioning of Government in a District. The importance of the Office of District Collector in District Administration suffered in terms of status and authority. The role and functions of the District Collector have increased manifold. The collection of revenue was the first function of the Districts Collector. He is still the head of revenue administration. As the head of Revenue Administration in District, the Collector is responsible for carrying out a number of functions. So the attempt has been made to evaluate the reorganization in the district Administration. This author has analysed in detail the reorganization of District Administration that would help to understand the existing position of District Administration and steps that need to be taken to reorganize the District level could be able to carry out the different functions more efficiently.
