Within a very vibrant, colourful (or even risky in security terms for some observers and critics) region as East Asia, numerous activities have drawn many attentions from observers, policy makers, business-people and participants for civil society movements, which have been flourished for decades, from within and without the region. What kind of activities have generated such attentions? This book illustrates that such activities covering both economic and political as well as socio-cultural activities. These activities, easily observed in the 1990s when the region received more attentions due to many intersting events took places or emerged for the region whether there were ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), or the 1997 Financial Crisis. Yet, they were not new for regional engaging/networking agents when their activities were traced back through times, at least more than three decades earlier. These engaging/networking activities encouraged and transmitted their ideas regarding regional security to be more broadened and inclusive. After being a Journalist covering East Asia and ASEAN affairs for nearly 4 years, she turned to be a university lecturer who is still interested in these vibrant regions while pursued her PhD at the University of Birmingham. Her interests in track-II diplomcy, regarding comprehensive security within the region, are the foundation of this book.
