Details

The monograph discusses materials on the ecology of the Willow Warbler collected during more than 40 years of work in the Subarctic, in the Subpolar and Polar Urals, in the Lower Priobie and on the Yamal Peninsula. Analysis of the main parameters of the Vesnichka's ecology in the northern part of the range was carried out to reveal the adaptations contributing to the development of the species in the Subarctic. The duration of pre-breeding events, such as arrival, gonadal maturation, and probably nest building, decreases in the Veshnika to the north, but development of the Subarctic has not resulted in a decrease in the periods of incubation and rearing. The main reduction is at the expense of the post-breeding period: the first yearlings leave the breeding area early, molt coincides with the maturation of juvenile plumage, starts relatively early, has insignificant completeness, lasts less than a month, and coincides with migration. Post-mating molt is not always complete and does not coincide with breeding. Reproduction coincides with dolinization of body parts. All this allows Vesnichka tundras to depart from subarctic and arctic tundras in late August, before the onset of autumn cold weather, reducing the period of population stay in the breeding area to 75 to 80 days.
