ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF TOMATO IN KANGRA DISTRICT OF HIMACHAL PRADESH

The protected cultivation technology holds a special significance for hilly states like Himachal Pradesh where arable land is scarce and holdings are small and fragmented. However, farmers have to make huge investments in the polyhouses, and therefore due to lack of factual information related to it, they are unable to decide about the adoption of new technology. Therefore, if comparative studies are available, the farmers can decide which method to be adopted for the cultivation to earn a higher income. Therefore, the book pertains to the economic analysis of tomato under protected and open-field conditions in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, India. It mainly covers the socio-economic status of farmers, the economics of tomato production under protected and open-field conditions, the impact of protected cultivation in enhancing the farmer's income, and problems/ constraints faced by the farmers under the specified environmental conditions. The subject matter has been presented in simple language. I hope that this compelling book is widely available to students, scientists, researchers, and policy makers across the country as a source of knowledge and further research.
