Details

Islahi explores the state of Arab Muslim economic thinking in the 19th century. Investigating the works of nine distinguished Arab writers from various fields, Islahi concludes that the intellectual, economic and Islamic awakening seen in the 19th century paved the way for the development of Islamic economics in the 20th century.

The present book is an attempt to analyse the writing of some Arab scholars on economics from the Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia and Syria mainly. The book under review is a very good contribution to Islamic economics as it extends textual interpretation to the formulation of a coherent view of how to achieve economic development and how these great personalities, in their own different ways, attended to the crisis of the Arab world in the 19th century. (Faizal Ahmad Manjoo, The Muslim World, Vol. 37 (1), 2016)
