Economics of Free Electricity To Punjab Farmers

Agriculture is the back bone of Punjab economy. Almost 84 per cent area is under agriculture. The cropping intensity is 185 per cent. During the mid-sixties, the Green Revolution transformed the state s agriculture and contributed significantly in making the country self-reliant in food. This also replaced traditional agricultural practices. Subsidies are introduced for increasing the agricultural production. In this book, an attempt is made to analysis the free electricity given to Punjab farmers during 1996-97 to 2009-10. This book reveals the meaning of subsidy, free electricity given to Punjab farmers, current status of electricity and the impact of free electricity on various aspects of economy.

Dr.Rajwinder Kaur is born in Patiala (India). She has done B.Com, M.A (economics), BEd, MPhil and Phd (economics) from Punjabi University Patiala. Her findings have been published in national as well as in international journals. She has taught economics in Lovely Professional University and presently working as Assistant Professor in a college.
