Ecotourism for conservation and development

The basic objective of ecotourism is ecological and socio-cultural conservation as well as bringing sustainable development without damaging the environment. Ecotourism is widely promoted as a conservation tool and actively practiced in protected areas worldwide. It is as a form of leisure conforming to the principles of environmental protection and promoting its natural and cultural values. It conveys positive connotations and implies careful considerations of tourist impact. This industry can be important in developing countries that directly depend on natural resources. Ethiopia has excellent natural, historical and cultural tourism resources. This book highlights and recommends that in this process, government organizations, NGOs and public and all stakeholders strongly to use the potential of ecotourism for sustainable development.

Demeke Datiko holds Bachelor of Education Degree in Biology on July 2002 from Bahir Dar University and M.Sc degree in Ecological and Systematic Zoology (Biology) in 2006 from the University of Addis Ababa. Demeke has been engaged in various research works and published several scientific articles in reputable national and international journals.
