This book examines the evolving relationship between the nation-state, citizenship and the education of citizens, exploring the impact European integration had on national policies towards educating its citizens and citizenship.

Aril Keating's Education for Citizenship in Europe is a very well-organised book, concisely written yet with detailed analysis. While on one level a specialist read, it is sufficiently rooted in contemporary debates about citizenship to appeal to a wider audience. The book is primarily focused on European policies to promote citizenship education but as becomes clear these are at times difficult to disentangle from national contexts.
