Educational and Cultural Exchange Programs in Foreign Policy
Details
This study aims at investigating the impact of culture and educational exchange programme on Ghana-China relations. Specifically, it tries to ascertain whether the education of Ghanaians in Chinese universities enhances respect and understanding of Chinese Culture. It also assesses how well Ghanaians and Chinese know one another as well as investigates whether efforts have been put in place to promote a mutual understanding of Ghanaian and Chinese cultures. Using both qualitative and quantitative research designs, the study administers questionnaires to 50 Ghanaian students and 50 Chinese friends in an attempt to meet the objectives stated above. The study found that the education of Ghanaians in Chinese universities has led to a greater understanding of Chinese culture among them. This is facilitated by the Chinese educational system, which integrates to a large extent some aspect of Chinese culture into teaching and learning. However, the study also shows that knowledge of Ghana and the Ghanaian culture among Chinese remains very low.
