Educational Buildings

This project is concerned with the topics educational buildings and campus design. In the theoretical part, differences between Europe and the USA and the pros and cons of both educational systems were pointed out. A short review on the past of the educational systems in general and a preview on possible future tendencies demonstrate the development in the architecture of educational buildings. Regarding the methodical reflections, the researches focus on two main trains of thought; the 'inner aspects' like pedagogical methods and their impact on the design of a educational building, and 'outer aspects' like building, campus and setting, including contemporary typologies and designs. The second part is a draft for an extension building of a German university, capable to meet the requirements of modern learning in an architectural and urban point of view. The purpose of this project is to conceive a plan for a new university building that shows how a different educational system could be implemented, and how the conditions, and in further consequence, the educational level at universities could be improved.

Iris Gomm, DI - After studying Interior Design in Rosenheim, she received her master degree in Architecture from FH Joanneum Graz. During her studies, she spent more than a year abroad working in an architects office in Madrid and writing her master thesis at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She has been working as an architect in Rosenheim since 2017.
