Pomegranate is an ancient beneficial plant and fruit. Its utilization is deeply embedded in human history and its usage is found in ancient human cultures as food and as a medical remedy.Pomegranate can be used as fresh, fruit juice, fermented fruit juice, dried aril, frozen aril, minimally-processed aril, canned aril, jam, jelly, wine, vinegar, paste, fruit leather and in flavoring products.The effect of gamma radiation on the nutritional quality of pomegranate and the use of food irradiation to increase the shelf life of pomegranate was studied.

Ayesha Shabbir has done her BS.Hons in the field of biotechnology from lahore college for women university, lahore. She has done her thesis on the proximate analysis of pomegranate and in improving the shelf life of pomegranate by using the technique of food irradiation.
