Effect of Sound on the growth of Plants

Healing effects of music is known to us since ages. Not only does humans are benefited by the positive impact of music but the advances in technology and research has proved that plants are also affected by it. Moreover, researchers have also shown that plants are not only affected by sounds but can also distinguish between different types of sounds. Experiment in this book demonstrates the effect of music on the growth of two species of pulses- Vigna radiata and Cajanus cajan compared to the set of same plants that were devoid of music.

The author is currently working as a Junior Research Fellow at Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Inspired by the responses of plants to the variety of stimulus in the surrounding environment, she decided to experiment with the stimulus of sound to learn how the plants react to it.
