Effect of Turbinectomy on Aerosol Dynamics inside Human Nasal Cavity
Details
Particle deposition studies in the human airway are extremely important for characterizing hazards of exposure to airborne particles, developing effective drug treatment methods for chronic airway diseases, and assessing dosimetry for occupational hygiene and medicinal treatments. In this book, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis has been performed on upper airway model with different laminar and turbulent inspiratory flow rates. The airflow characteristics and pressure distribution were analyzed accordingly. Moreover, a Lagrangian approach was used to examine the transport and deposition of the injected micro particles through the nasal airways. It was found that the morphology of the upper airway, affects the airflow pattern and the micro particles deposition fraction considerably. The local deposition fractions analysis proved that the upper airway plays a significant role in filtering micro-size particles.
