What makes for an effective awards and recognition
program in a large and complex organization?
Does it make a difference if it is a private sector,
public service or non-profit organization?
Zac''s research project took place within one
ministry of the public service of British Columbia.
The findings are relevant not only to those in
public service organizations, but those in private
sector organizations as well. For, at their most
intrinsic levels, people are looking for the same
things from their jobs, their co-workers, their
bosses, and their organizations.
An action research approach was utilized, and the
findings were very much in line with current
literature on awards and recognition today. There
are also linkages to the more common employee
engagement, employee satsifaction, and overall
organizational wellness conversations that are
happening within organizations today.
