Effects of Plant Extract on Testis & Epididymis of Mouse during Aging
Details
A gradual decline in the reproductive ability of man indicates the reproductive aging. But due to urbanization, various mechanization, stressful life, reproductive disabilities are occurring in adulthood also. Now a day's use of dietary supplements of antioxidants is becoming very common to treat a vast number of diseases. Though not much work is done on their effects on reproductive abilities, the report suggests that antioxidant supplements can help to minimize the risk of cancer, heart diseases and neurodegenerative diseases. In the present investigation, the efforts are made to find out the protective effects of antioxidant rich plants Petroselinum crispum, Lactuca sativa and Bacopa monniera on testis and epididymis in D-galactose induced aged mice. Parsley, Lactuca and Bacopa extracts are potent in reducing the aging effects in both testes and epididymis. Lowest level of peroxidation and fluorescence, highest sperm count and phospholipids content in Bacopa treated group lipid content in Bacopa treated group indicate that Bacopa monniera can act as a very powerful antioxidant among the three.
